Hey guys! I’ll be your president for this year’s European Parliament, and I hope you guys are all as excited as I am!  

MUN has been a passion of mine for the past four years, and I can honestly say it has been one of the most rewarding and eye-opening experiences of my life. The skills I’ve gained through MUN from public speaking and diplomatic negotiation to critical thinking and problem-solving have been invaluable.  

As one of your chairs, I hope I can create the same engaging and enriching MUN experience for all of you. This is a great opportunity to delve into global issues, make friends, and develop skills that will serve you well throughout your life.

My name is Eloy, and I will be the deputy president for EP, and I am specifically in charge of the topic of the legal framework establishment for global security. I am a MUNer who gained experiences both from THIMUN and UNA USA inside and outside of China. I am looking forward to seeing everyone's massive contributions to make SHAMUN a place full of enjoyment and opportunities to develop as a person.

Welcome to the SHAMUNXXV European Parliament! I am Andrew, a junior at Shanghai American School Pudong. This will be my third year in MUN, first time full-time chairing, and my seventh time participating in a conference. I am thrilled to have this special experience in the European Parliament.  

The European Union has always been a world leading advocate for democracy; its key government — the European Parliament — is the only directly elected institution dedicated to protecting democracy within and outside of the union. However, recent years have seen a surge of anti-democratic movements in the EU; the growing conservatism in the Hungarian government, the alarming rise of parties like the AfD in Germany and National Rally in France, to name a few.  

I look forward to guiding this council in navigating among complex perspectives and clashing political stances to provide a framework to restore democratic stability in the EU.
