President Chairs

  • Jade Chan - President Chair

    Greetings and welcome all delegates!

My name is Jade Chan and I am currently a senior (12th grader, Year 13) at Shanghai SMIC Private School and I am honored to serve as your President Chair at SHAMUN XXVI for UNHCR. I have been doing Model United Nations for nearly 4 years now and have participated in……many conferences to the point where I have gotten too lazy to count. Nevertheless, it’s an activity that I truly feel like I belong in.

The topic I will be specializing in will be: addressing the war spillover and refugee crisis in Sudan. The refugee and humanitarian crisis in Sudan have been festering for many years, fueled by the Sudan Civil War and other humanitarian conflicts. I am excited to see all of the collaboration and new ideas that UNHCR delegates will come up with to address all the challenges relating to this issue.

I cannot wait to hear you all! See you in October!

  • Hiroyasu Kato - Deputy President

    Greetings delegates,

My name is Hiroyasu Kato, and I'm a Year 12 / junior enrolling in Dulwich College Shanghai. It is my greatest honor and pleasure to partake in this year's SHAMUN conference as the deputy president of UNHCR.

My topic of specialization will be on "Addressing the displacement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees". With ISIL remnants remaining within Syria and Iraq, clashes between extremist militant groups and governments still resume, and the livelihoods of those entangled in such conflicts are still precarious even after fleeing from the region.

Securing the humanitarian needs of refugees displaced from such conflicts in Syria and Iraq is of utmost importance, and that cooperative frameworks for long term resettlement and repatriation programs are necessary between nations to properly address this issue together.

I am looking forward to the solutions you will propose during this conference, and I’ll see you all soon in October!

  • Drishti Pattnaik - Deputy President

    Hello esteemed delegates!

I’m Drishti, currently attending Shanghai Livingston American School. It’s an honor for me to be serving as your deputy president for the UNHCR committee at the upcoming conference! This will be my third year participating in MUN, having attended conferences both across China and outside of China.

In this conference, I will be responsible for the topic of addressing the rights of internally displaced persons in Ukrainian war zones. This critical crisis affects approximately 3.9 million displaced individuals in Ukraine who face severe human rights violations, including restricted access to social welfare, forced evictions, and targeted attacks on critical heating and water infrastructure. Whether you are a veteran delegate or a beginner, I encourage you to speak passionately and negotiate constructively.

As always, please feel free to reach out anytime if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you all in October!
