Future Security Council - FSC

President Chairs

  • Claire Hsu - President Chair

    Greetings, delegates!

My name is Claire Hsu, I am currently a senior at Shanghai American School Puxi, and it is my honor to serve as the President of the Future Security Council at SHAMUN XXVI. I have participated in over 12 conferences over the course of 3 years and am excited to meet you all!

I will be focusing on the topic of “Addressing great power proxy escalation in the Sahel region of West Africa between France and Turkey.” Great power competition in the Sahel has been surrounding global diplomacy ever since regional instability began to deepen. In recent years, proxy escalation, most notably between France and Turkey, has grown gradually more intense, making it evident that competing foreign interventions could destabilize West Africa even further. Furthermore, these power struggles fuel political fragmentation, worsen humanitarian crises, and ultimately threaten security across the entire region. Thus, it is in delegates’ hands to collectively address great power proxy escalation in the Sahel through strategic communication, debate, and exchanging country stances.

Feel free to reach out anytime and ask questions regarding the topics and the conference! Excited for the fruitful debate delegates will offer!

    See you guys in October!

  • John Park - Deputy President

Greetings, delegates! My name is John Park, and I serve as a vice president of curriculum at SASPX’s MUN program. I am excited to serve as a FSC deputy president for SHAMUN XXVI.

For this iteration of SHAMUN, my topic of focus would be addressing AI arms race escalation between major global powers and middle-tier nations between China and Japan. With the exponential changes society is facing regarding AI and its applications, AI arm race is one of those serious global concerns.

Within the committee room, I value an atmosphere of respectful discussion, and a passion to learn from others in a diplomatic way. I hope that delegates not only contribute meaningfully to our debates but also take away valuable knowledge and insights from this conference. Delegates should come prepared with thorough research and a willingness to engage in discussions that will drive real progress in our resolution.

Please feel free to email me at john01px2028@saschina.org if you have any questions regarding committee procedures, preparation materials, or the topic at hand. As I am highly interested in AI as well, I am open to any questions regarding the topic as well.

Looking forward to having another great SHAMUN with you all. See you guys in October!
