President Chairs

  • Daniel Wang - Chief Justice

Greetings, delegates! My name is Daniel Wang, a senior at Suzhou Singapore International School. It is my honor to serve as the president of the International Criminal Court for this plenary session SHAMUN. This is my 5th year being involved in MUN and will be my 10th time serving as a student officer.

The International Criminal Court serves a special role in the United Nations and the world, being the adjudicator of international law and tackling some of the most disconcerting atrocities that society has and continues to witness. In today’s world, its role is more important than ever, perhaps the last line of defense to ensure some degree of fairness in international conflict and to protect human rights against violations, without regard for political motivation, religious affiliation, or financial benefit. The case at hand, against Rodrigo Duterte, challenges how many politicians and regions have chosen to respond to a seemingly uncontrollable crisis involving illicit drugs and controlled substances. At its core, the trial may very well seek the answer to a simple question: do the ends justify the means?

Within the context of MUN in general, the ICC is exceptionally unique in its procedure, grounded in rigorous legal theory and practice that delegates must pay special attention to, especially given the nature of a bench trial. Delegates are advised to thoroughly study the resources provided by chairs, particularly the legal theory and applicable case law.

I look forward to a fruitful conference and to seeing you all in October.

  • Yolanda Gao - Deputy Justice

    Hi!

My name is Yolanda Yuanyang Gao, and I’m a senior from Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID). I am incredibly honoured to be able to serve as your deputy justice for this year’s SHAMUN. I’ve been doing MUN for the past four years, and this will be my 18th conference, my 8th as chair. Hopefully, we’ll have an insightful and productive discussion regarding the topic.

Have fun! See you all soon!

  • Jenna Han - Deputy Justice

    Hello delegates!

My name is Jenna, and I am a senior attending SAS Puxi. I am honored to serve as Deputy President of the International Criminal Court in SHAMUN XXVI!

My MUN journey started in the beginning of middle school, and since then, I have attended numerous conferences across China. MUN has allowed me to grow as a writer, speaker, and leader, shaping my passion for diplomacy and world relations.

In the ICC, examining the Prosecutor v. Rodrigo Roa Duterte case, we will apply extensive legal analysis to real-world issues, diverging slightly from other MUN formats.

Good luck delegates, and I look forward to meetting everyone in October!
