General Assembly IV - GA IV

President Chairs

  • Suzie Yang - President Chair

My name is Suzie, and I am a sophomore at Shanghai SMIC Private School. I will be serving as your President for General Assembly IV at SHAMUN XXVI.

My topic of focus will be “Sovereignty and the Legal Status of Disappearing Island Nations.” Addressing this topic requires a careful understanding of international law, state sovereignty, climate change, and the complex legal and political challenges faced by nations threatened by rising sea levels.

I look forward to seeing how delegates engage this issue through debate and cooperation.

    Best of luck!

  • Jacob Bu - Deputy President

    Greetings delegates!

My name is Jacob Bu, an upcoming junior attending Shanghai SMIC Private School. This edition of SHAMUN marks my 9th Model UN conference, and my fourth time serving as a chair. I am honored to lead the discussion on "The question of international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space", a crucial point to consider as technology develops and disputes intensify.

As governments, corporations, and other factions strive to reach beyond Earth, our shared domain of space increasingly reflects the rivalries and ambitions of those on Earth, fueling an unprecedented need for outer space governance. I am looking forward to helping delegates create the delicate balance between protecting space and competing interests.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

    See you in October!

  • Derek Ding - Deputy President

Hihihihihihihi! I’m Derek Ding, a current junior at the United World College Changshu China, and it is truly an honor to serve as one of the deputy chairs of this year’s SHAMUN conference. I have been involved in MUN since 8th grade and have now gone to 13 conferences, 14 after this one. This would be my first time participating in SHAMUN as well as chairing for GA IV.

For this conference, I will be presiding over the topic of “The issue of regulating non-traditional security threats” where the factors that plague safety goes beyond stemming from military sources but caused by problems like climate change, infection diseases, cyberattacks, and transnational crime. These threats often exceed nation borders, thus calling for international collaboration to seek solutions.

No matter if it’s your first time MUNing or hundredth conference, I hope we can all have an amazing experience together at SHAMUN XXIV!
