President Chairs

  • Chief Justice - Rachel Chi

    Greetings!

I’m Rachel Chi, a junior at Dulwich College Beijing, and I am honored to serve as your Chief Justice for the International Court of Justice. I first started MUN in 2022, with this iteration of SHAMUN marking my 17th total conference and 11th as a student officer. Over the years, MUN has become a defining part of my high school experience, and together, I’m sure we’ll make this conference a great one.

This year, the ICJ will be covering Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Serbia and Montenegro on the Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. I know that you will all thrive in this novel committee format, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m excited to meet you in person :)

  • Deputy Justice - Yolanda Gao

I’m Yolanda, a junior at SHSID, and I’ll be serving as the Deputy Chair for this year’s International Court of Justice (ICJ).

I’ve been involved in MUN for the past three years and have had the opportunity to attend 14 conferences so far. Alongside MUN, I’ve been actively participating in mock trial for the past two years, earning several individual and team awards at international competitions. I've also captained and coached multiple mock trial teams, an experience I’m excited to bring to SHAMUN this year.

I can’t wait to meet all of you this October!

  • Deputy Justice - Jason Kim

    Welcome delegates!

I am Jason Kim, a Senior at Shanghai American School Puxi. It is my greatest honour to serve as your deputy justice in International Court of Justice (ICJ).

This is my fourth and last year in high school MUN, and I am very excited to chair again in such a unique committee, ICJ. ICJ diverges from the traditional MUN format, following the process similar to mock trials and courts instead. It will be a pretty novel experience, so please be generous for any misunderstandings or confusions during the conference.

In the upcoming SHAMUN, our committee will be focusing on “Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Serbia and Montenegro)”, which was ICJ’s 91th case. As an event involving complex national stances, all of us chairs in ICJ are looking forward to discussions on this case. Also, considering the controversy around the issue, we hope that our debate brings a respective and fruitful outcome. Thank You for reading, and see you in SHAMUN!
