President - Daniel WangGreetings, delegates! My name is Daniel Wang, a junior at Suzhou Singapore International School, and it is my honor to serve as President of the UNCSTD for this edition of SHAMUN. I first joined MUN in grade 8 and have fallen in love with it ever since. The fast dynamic of today’s world means that in order to fix the issues that face us, solutions need to consider how situations may evolve in the future but more importantly need to center on bridging present gaps and solving the disagreements in the current climate. For this conference, I will focus on the topic of developing an international safety protocol for the development and application of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) and neutral data protection. This is a relatively novel topic, an exciting one that stokes both promise and concern in today’s world. I would encourage all delegates to research extensively on both this topic and the others featured for the committee in order to ensure fruitful debate. Should you have any questions about the topic or the conference in general, please do not hesitate to contact me (57854@mail.ssis-suzhou.net) or my cochairs.

Deputy President - John ParkHonorable chairs, fellow delegates, and the most esteemed guests, My name is John Park. I am a sophomore at Shanghai American School Puxi Campus, and it is my pleasure to serve as a deputy president of UNCSTD, a newly introduced committee in SHAMUN this year. I have been passionate in both international diplomacy as well as scientific research, and I wish this committee becomes an opportunity for delegates to develop their knowledge in both fields through their participation. This will be my 11th conference, and I wish to have a great experience with everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me. See you in October!

Deputy President - Karen WangGreetings, delegates! My name is Karen Wang, and I am a senior at Shanghai American School Puxi. This is my ninth Model United Nations conference, my third time attending SHAMUN, and my second time serving as a chair. I am honored to serve as your Deputy President and to lead the discussion on “Addressing global biosecurity and ethical regulation in synthetic biology and genetic engineering,” a topic of serious global concern. Emerging technologies like CRISPR and gene editing hold great potential, yet also present serious biosecurity risks, including the creation of synthetic pathogens for bioterrorism and unintended environmental releases. I look forward to guiding delegates and listening to different perspectives in a collective effort to prioritize global biosecurity and ethical standards. Delegates should come prepared with thorough research and a willingness to engage in meaningful debate. With that said, I am excited to meet you all in October! Best, Karen Wang
